The Dog Muck Competition has reaped some excellent results and Mr Devlin and Councillor Smithies have found it hard to choose the winners! But they finally managed it. Here are the winners.

Zoeya Sajid – She won £30

Harrison Blenkard – He won £20

Jordan Heckles – She won £10

Zoeya and Harrison, along with the school council, went out onto the roads to put their signs up. A man from the Keighley News went along to take some photos. The winners are happy with their rewards, the school is happy with the posters, but will they work? That remains to be seen…

The awesome Great White Shark is the largest hunting fish in the sea. It has an exaggerated reputation as a killer, partly because a killer shark appears in the film ,jaws. In reality Great White Sharks do often eat large prey, but they attack people only occasionally, in cases of mistaken identity.

Tiger shark

A young Tiger Shark has pale stripes along it’s body, which fade as it grows older. The powerful Tiger shark has a long , rounded shape, typical of hunting sharks. Some Tiger Sharks can rival Great Whites in size.

This is a Samsung galaxy S3 (It has red white and blue for colors) it is a smart phone. it has excellent battery life a superb wide screen and quad core speed. The Galaxy S3 has been available in the market for a while now, but with the recent update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (the 4.1.1 platform), not only has the S3 been given a speed boost; there’s also a host of other goodies thrown in as well.

Introducing the Ipad 3 or as some people call it the new iPad. This device was designed to be very powerful it has HD screening which makes gaming even more special. The camera is incredible, it takes HQ pictures and also has a front camera. The front camera is the same as the back so when your face timing someone it makes you feel a little bit more closer to them.

The Xbox 360 Live is just another gaming device. There’s not much to say about this sort of console. Here is a rough list of what it is like:

It’s quiet!

Built-in Wi-Fi

Touch buttons

Xbox Live

Year 6 are currently in Paris on a weekend visit. That doesn’t stop Fab Mag though… updates are being sent in via twitter, e-mail and phone calls. This post will be updated each time something new is sent in.

They set off from school in the early hours of Friday morning. They arrived in Dover on time for the ferry. The English Channel was quite calm when they crossed so the children enjoyed the journey.

After arriving in France the coach stopped at Vimy Ridge. Vimy Ridge was the scene of a famous battle in the First World War. The children looked at reconstructed trenches and paused for thought at the memorial to the fallen.

After Vimy Ridge the children travelled to the Chateau that they are staying in. They have had lots of fun their already!

On Saturday the children are heading into Paris. here they are waiting for the coach to pick them up.

The children visited Mont Matre and the Eifell Tower yesterday. In the evening they attended mass at Notre Dame de Victoires.

We now have another school wanting to stay in contact with us; this time, in Africa.

We have another school wanting to exchange blog posts with us. The first one was is Lithuania, and we are currently formulating a reply to them. This one is in Africa, and they are wanting to stay in contact with us for as long as both schools want to, which seems like a pretty long time!

The school in Africa, called Leap Science and Maths School, is situated in a township called Diepsloot. The children in Leap and Science and Maths are very excited to be contacting us, and we will hopefully receive a message from them soon. We will show you the reply that we send as well. We are excited to be talking to them, and you will have to agree that this is an exciting opportunity! Click HERE for a link to their website.

This week’s country is France. Three guesses why. That’s right! Year Six are in Paris this week! We have searched the internet and found a few interesting facts.

                                             The City Of Paris

Paris is the capital city of France, with over 65 million inhabitants. France is a very large country - over 550,000 km squared. Founded more than 2000 years ago, Paris is a vibrant city, sometimes called The City Of Lights. This isn’t because of the famous Eiffel tower and it’s lights at night, this is actually because of the intellectual minds living there. The French Kings, who governed France from 448 till 1848, commissioned many wonderful monuments in Paris, such as the Eiffel tower, Versailles tower and the Louvre museum. The Catholic Church built many great churches, including Notre Dame and Sainte Chapelle. Paris is a world of shopping and fashion. The French tradition of good food still prevails in many restaurants – each year 44 million tourists visit Paris. All of this makes Paris a unique tourist city.

                                      French Cuisine

The French have founded many different types of food, such as;

Baguette

Snails

Frogs legs

Croissant

Éclair

Crème brûlée

Crepes

All of these and many more have helped to earn France a reputation for food that we don’t always like.

The Sights Of Paris

The Eiffel Tower

Probably the best known landmark in Europe, the Eiffel Tower is the symbol of Paris and if anyone ever went to Paris, they always went to see the Eiffel Tower. You can climb up the stairs or take the lift.

Louvre Museum

One of the not-to-miss sights in Paris is the Louvre Museum, possibly the most famous museum in the world with a fabulous collection. It is in the Louvre Palace, once the residence of France’s royal family.

Notre Dame Cathedral

The Notre Dame de Paris is one of the first Gothic cathedrals ever built. The building of it started in 1163 and lasted for almost twenty years. The view from the north tower is a great view of the city.

Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe, located at the Place Charles de Gaulle celebrates Napoleon’s victories. The arch was completed in 1836, long after Napoleon’s reign had come to an end.

Sacré Coeur

The Sacré Coeur is a basilica located on top of the Montmartre hill. Building started in 1875, but the building wasn’t completed until 1914.

Some Simple French Phrases

These are the English words and their French pronunciation. I hope you will find these useful.

Year 5 have begun a project on Victorian Keighley.

Year 5 pupils are starting a project on Victorian Keighley. They are using copies of documents, photographs, maps and original objects from the time as part of this project.

They will learn what it was like to be a child in Keighley during Victorian times and find out what the local area was like between 1837 and 1901.

When the weather is a bit better the class will go on a history walk around the area. Mr Devlin and Mr Moorhouse will take them into town and back and talk to the class about lots of Victorian buildings that we can still see.

Last year we went on this walk. There are Victorian postboxes, a Victorian Cemetery remains of a Victorian Slum and lots of mills and factories from the Victorian period very close to school. There was also a hospital and a reservoir near Our Lady of Victories that Year 5 will learn about in their project.

Here are some photographs from last years History trail.
